Description
Development of this cartridge began around 1890, during a period when European gunmakers were actively experimenting with case designs, bullet shapes, and new smokeless powders to achieve higher velocity and improved terminal performance.
The cartridge that would later become the 9.3×72R—for many years one of the most popular German hunting rounds—was actually based on a design from abroad. The British .360 Express served as the foundation, providing the case geometry from which the 9.3×72R was developed. The result was a versatile, effective cartridge ideally suited for break‑action rifles, drillings, and other traditional hunting firearms widely used throughout Central Europe.
