I’d like to share a bit about wild boar hunting here in Germany, specifically in Northern Hesse, where I hunt regularly.

Wild boar (“Schwarzwild” in German) are very common here, and hunting them is not just a sport — it’s also part of our responsibility for wildlife management.
In Germany, hunters are legally responsible for wild boar damage to crops and fields. If we don’t keep populations under control, we must pay for the damage ourselves, which can get very expensive.

Even with that responsibility, we focus strongly on ethical and traditional hunting. We always aim to hunt humanely and respectfully, never shooting mother animals with young (sows with piglets). Maintaining balance in nature is just as important as protecting crops.

Wild boar are intelligent, strong, and challenging to hunt. Most hunts take place at night from elevated stands (“Hochsitz”) or during organized driven hunts (“Drückjagd”) in autumn and winter.
Typical rifles are bolt-actions in calibers like .308 Win, .30-06, or 8x57, often used with suppressors and night optics (which are legal in many regions now).

We also eat the meat — it’s delicious, organic, and completely natural. Many hunters keep it for their families or sell it locally. Every harvested boar must be checked for trichinae (a type of parasite) before the meat can be consumed or sold.
